Teams from different community groups organize most of our meals, and there are also slots for ad hoc volunteers from 10:30-1:30 or 11:30-1:30. Open Day (ad hoc) volunteers prepare, serve, and clean up after the meal when no pre-formed volunteer team is designated. Extra help with serving and cleaning is needed both on Open Days and on some days with pre-formed volunteer teams.
Make sure you navigate to 1105 S. Gilbert COURT, (not Gilbert STREET). If you're driving, park behind the building on the west side; you'll find the volunteer entrance there. If you're arriving by bike or bus, be assured that we have bike racks conveniently located in front and the Route 1 (South Iowa City) bus has several stops within a 1-block radius. When you arrive, we will have you review and sign our Orientation and Waiver document, which you can preview here. Call Free Lunch Program at 319-337-6283 if you have any issues.
