Aging Services Home Repair & Accessibility Program volunteers use basic skills and tools to fix minor problems in an older adult's home. Projects can range from installing safety rails or fixing a dripping faucet to screwing in light bulbs and washing curtains. Aging Services staff will contact volunteers in advance to see if a project may be of interest to them. Volunteers are welcome to accept or decline the project when it is proposed to them. Your handy work will help a senior to continue to live independently in their own home. There's no place like home!

Volunteers must fill out an application, pass background checks, and must own some basic tools to participate. We will need you to be able to make simple repairs around the home of a client, adhere to the scope of work, and work with Aging Services staff to arrange for the purchase of minor supply needs (which you will be reimbursed for).

Pathways in Iowa City, a program of Aging Services, is looking for an energetic person to help with small group activities.  The opportunity could involve leading a small card game in our library, helping our Activity Coordinator with arts and crafts, leading book club, gardening, etc.  This is a fun and exciting opportunity that will surely build relationships!

Pathways serves adults 18+ who need medical care, socialization, or have other needs during the day and return home in the evening.  Pathways has opportunities Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM.  If you love meeting new people, spending time with amazing people, and making a difference, we would love to talk to you about all of the awesome things happening at Pathways in Iowa City.

Aging Services strives to keep older adults independent and active for as long as possible by providing a wide variety of programs and resources.

Aging Services provides volunteer-based transportation services free of charge to older adults in our community, so that they are able to get to and from appointments and essential errands such as food banks and the pharmacy.  This is a perfect volunteer opportunity for helpful people who really want to make a difference in the lives of older adults living in our community! Volunteers give their time and are reimbursed mileage!

The Transportation Program runs Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM. Volunteers are notified a week in advance of potential driving opportunities, which the volunteer is able to accept or decline. We love working with your schedule and are very flexible!
