Community Inclusion Club (CIC) is a non-profit that was created to provide/ facilitate socially inclusive opportunities for adults with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) living in and around the Iowa City community. We do this by hosting events at least once a month at various locations where people with and without ID meet, mingle and get to know one another. Ideally, this will result in people forming friendships, and in turn those friends will meet and communicate with one another outside of our scheduled event times. We realize that people with ID often lack opportunities to interact with their non-disabled peers in the community, and this club was founded to change all that.

The Community Inclusion Club (CIC) continues its efforts to support Unified Sports and will be sponsoring softball this spring and summer. Our practices will be held at Napoleon Park softball diamonds beginning in May of 2026 with the regional tournament being held on July 25 in Cedar Rapids and the state tournament being held on August 1st in Grimes. Unified Sports pairs people with intellectual disabilities (ID) (referred to as athletes) and their non-disabled peers (referred to as partners) on the same team. Last year we fielded four teams and we anticipate fielding four teams again this summer. CIC is always looking for partners and for people willing to coach. Coaching involves being at and helping to direct practices and accompanying the team to tournaments (2) and being a partner involves attending as many practices as possible (1 time per week) during the spring and committing to playing in the tournaments in July and August. The annual Shelter House Book Sale will be held on March 28th and March 29th at 860 Quarry Road Coralville, IA. There will be thousands of gently used books plus music, movies, etc. All proceeds will benefit Shelter House.

In order to put on a successful event, we will need many volunteers during the weeks leading up to the sale to help sort and organize all incoming book donations and prepare the space. We will also need dedicated volunteers to assist during both dates of the sale and immediately after for tear down.

Each Friday in Assisted Living, we host a happy hour as a way for the residents to get together and socialize and enjoy each others company. As a happy hour helper, you can help invite residents to the activity, walk down with them, and help serve refreshments, while engaging in one on one and group interactions.

The Creator Collective is a volunteer opportunity for Planned Parenthood digital activists ages 18+ interested in social media content creation, photography, and videography. All skills levels welcome! This opportunity empowers volunteers to capture and share content for social media, our website, and foundation materials. There is a lot going on at the Fab Lab at all times. One of the largest challenges is the sheer number of things to do and maintain at the Fab Lab. Our Champions program is the way that people with specialized skills can use their knowledge and training to help benefit everyone in the community! Champions teach beginners classes, upkeep/maintain equipment, participate in our events, and answer the hard questions our members come up with. They also get a say in what new equipment we need, what supplies to order, and how to design the different areas! 

Right now we need Champions for several areas, including Laser cutting, 3D printing, software/computer lab, wood shop, stained glass, jewelry, screen printing, Artistic outreach, Tufting, leatherworking, sign making/papercrafts, general maintenance, website, outreach, and CNC machining.  

Champions are expected to volunteer a few hours a week to maintain and check up on their areas, and can request other volunteers when needed to keep things running smoothly. The beginner classes are anywhere from once every 3 months for a few hours, to once a month for a few hours. 

This is a great way to add to a resume for those students who have an interest in making! Whether the interest is in your field of study or not, showing that you care enough to volunteer regularly and have hobbies and interests outside of work is a powerful multiplier in todays job market.

The Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman coordinates a volunteer ombudsman program, and we are actively seeking volunteers throughout the state of Iowa!  After completing initial certification training, a volunteer ombudsman in our program will make regular visits to an assigned long-term care facility or to multiple facilities in a region to help serve as a voice for residents, talking with them about their rights, empowering them, and providing advocacy.

Our volunteers are asked to spend a minimum of 3 hours per month in their assigned facility(ies), complete monthly reports, work with long-term care ombudsman staff at the local and state levels, and complete annual continuing education to remain certified. 

Visits to facilities are generally unannounced and can be made at any time, any day generally between the hours of 8am-8pm. For a volunteer who may wish to make an impact but not wish/be able to make visits to facilities, there are more administrative volunteer opportunities available on an individualized basis.

During the growing season (May-October), join the Iowa Valley RC&D Farm staff in the field on a Monday and Friday from 9-Noon (weather permitting) to help tend over 4 acres of vegetable crops at the Iowa Valley RC&D Grow: Johnson County Farm. Volunteers will help cultivate, tend, harvest, and pack vegetables grown on the farm and send them on their way to local hunger-relief agencies.

Teams from different community groups organize most of our meals, and there are also slots for ad hoc volunteers from 10:30-1:30 or 11:30-1:30. Open Day (ad hoc) volunteers prepare, serve, and clean up after the meal when no pre-formed volunteer team is designated. Extra help with serving and cleaning is needed both on Open Days and on some days with pre-formed volunteer teams. 

Make sure you navigate to 1105 S. Gilbert COURT, (not Gilbert STREET). If you're driving, park behind the building on the west side; you'll find the volunteer entrance there. If you're arriving by bike or bus, be assured that we have bike racks conveniently located in front and the Route 1 (South Iowa City) bus has several stops within a 1-block radius. Help build and rehabilitate homes along with Habitat for Humanity staff and hard-working people in our community. Home-owners will work to volunteer on the construction of their own home and will pay a long-term, affordable mortgage for the cost of the house.

Volunteers will help us with the majority exterior and interior construction, demolition and remodeling work at a home. No prior skills or knowledge are necessary! We train you and give you all the tools you need to accomplish the tasks for each shift. Learn new construction skills, make new memories, meet new friends, and help give back to the community!

ReStore volunteers help with all the daily tasks of running the store. Tasks will include unloading donations, assisting with small projects, cleaning, re-merchandising products, and organizing the different departments within the store.  We also need volunteers willing to ride in our truck along with staff to pick up donated items within the Iowa City and Coralville areas. We’re excited to welcome 5,000 seventh and eighth-grade students to the 19th annual Financial Literacy Fair this March, April, and May. Workplace Learning Connection is once again partnering with 44 middle schools to deliver this interactive, hands-on budgeting experience. In the classroom, students explore career paths, learn budgeting basics, and build financial well-being skills. Based on their interests, they choose a career, calculate their monthly income, and create a virtual budget. The Fair brings these financial concepts to life and gives students meaningful, real-world budgeting practice based on the choices they make.

You’re invited to spend about three hours chatting with students ages 12–14 as they navigate real-life financial choices. We’ll walk you through everything with a short training, and no prior experience is required!

We are especially interested in board members with experience in (non-profit) management and an interest in helping us develop and build the organizational structures and processes that will sustain the program for the next 20 years.

Specifically, we are seeking folks with skills or experience in any of the areas listed below: 

The Compeer Program matches adults who are living with mental illness with community volunteers to create intentional friendships with the goal of reducing isolation and loneliness.

You will meet with your friend on a regular basis at mutually convenient times to share activities you both enjoy, such as movies, sports, going for walks in good weather, shopping or coffee and a chat, or many of the free activities available in the Iowa City/Johnson County area.

You and your new friend will spend about an hour together once a week (or 2 hours every two weeks). Training, ongoing education, and support are provided by the Compeer staff.

Compeer volunteers are rewarded by the knowledge that they are making a positive difference in someone’s life! Both people gain a new friend with whom to enjoy and explore different aspects of life, learn from, and grow with.

Provide occasional transportation for Compeer participants to and from social engagement events in your personal vehicle. 

Participants in need of transportation are located in Johnson County, mostly Iowa City. Transportation is usually needed once or twice a month. 

Help people within your community gain access to social engagement events that foster mental wellbeing through meaningful connections.

Retail volunteers create a welcoming shopping experience by greeting customers, assisting at checkout, organizing displays, and helping keep the sales floor tidy and inviting. Skilled, experienced individuals responsible for performing phlebotomy blood draws, dipstick urinalysis, and other CLIA waved lab tests. Must already know how to draw blood. Transportation is required as the lab volunteer will deliver specimens to an outside lab for processing after clinic.

The Coralville Community Food Pantry (CCFP) works to address this issue by offering weekly food assistance to anyone in Coralville who needs it. Volunteers guiding members through the pantry, checking members in. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for two pantry shifts a month, but no minimum or maximum is required.

Calling all cooks!   Our Casserole Club is a fun opportunity to support the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House by preparing casseroles to freeze and serve at a later date.  Groups are responsible for buying groceries for the casserole of their choosing, preparing the casserole, and cleaning up after the cooking.    Feel free to share a special family recipe or create something new!

We generally ask that you make enough for 65 people.  (3-4 9" x 11" pans is usually about right).   We'll provide all utensils, pots & pans, and the aluminum pans with lids for freezing.

Many families and individuals in our community struggle daily to secure enough food to eat and they often have to overcome additional barriers such as transportation and housing. The Coralville Community Food Pantry (CCFP) works to address this issue by offering weekly food deliveries to anyone in Coralville or Tiffin who needs it. Volunteer drivers will pick up pre-packaged groceries, up to 5 per route and deliver them around Coralville and Tiffin for a no-contact, front door delivery.  Routes take no longer than an hour to complete.  Deliveries can be done at any moment in time between Tuesday and Saturday from 9:30 - 7 PM.

The office assistant will support office personal through administrative and clerical functions.  An office assistant may help by answering phones, filing, making copies, data entry, making admission packets and helping with mailings.

Our Vigil volunteers are dedicated individuals who provide emotional support and companionship to patients and their families in their final days of life.  They sit bedside, offering comfort through conversation, prayer, music or simply just being present.

Our compassion visits can be anything from holding a patient's hand, reading to the patient, talking with the patient to watching TV, listening to music and playing games.

Help us pack orders of local produce for our online market. Volunteers will pack bags for distribution on Thursdays. This opportunity requires close toed shoes and a lot of moving. An enjoyable and easy way to get to know others in the community who are interested in learning about local food systems!

Food safety training is required before being eligible for a volunteer shift. Please get in touch with Field to Family to arrange for the training. Training takes about 30 minutes and can be held before your first shift.

We are looking for servers (just like at a restaurant) to help us take orders and offer a true dining experience to our guests who are experiencing homelessness and food insecurity!

We are currently looking for a few new servers to help us out over the summer. This can be an every week or every other week opportunity.

This is a great way to learn more about homelessness and hunger in our community and to meet people you may not get to meet otherwise!

The Tuesday afternoon shift involves helping carry groceries up the stairs (very glamorous but only takes five minutes as a team effort), prepping any food necessary for the special, setting up the dining hall, and assisting with other kitchen tasks to help us get ready for our Wednesday morning service. This job is easy-going and social!

After the café stops serving in the morning, we need help doing dishes! If you'd like to support the Cafe, but don't like getting up too early - this job is for you! Come and have breakfast and then help wash up. An hour is all that is required. What works for you, works for the Cafe: 8-9am; 8:30-9:30am; 8-10am etc.

This job is a really easy way to give back, requires little social interaction (if you don't want), and can happen every week or every other week!

Farm season is busy, help us keep are small equipment running and in good condition. Oil changes, carb issues, gas lines in tillers, trimmers, and small walk-behind tractors.

Keystone Place at Forevergreen is looking for volunteers to assist with various activities and help with other duties. Keystone Place at Forevergreen is looking for volunteers to assist with various activities and help with other duties. This volunteer opportunity would involve working with residents in the Memory Care Unit that have Alzheimer's/Dementia. Previous experience working with Alzheimer's/Dementia patients is required. Caring for Iowans in their final stages of life is a difficult task, but it is also meaningful beyond words. Care Initiatives Hospice volunteers undergo truly life-changing experiences when they help a patient and their family through a deeply personal and difficult time. We could not provide the important care that we do without the dedication and support of our compassionate volunteers. We have short-term and long-term opportunities available and are able to work around your schedule. Friendly visiting may include holding a hand, reading to patients, listening to a story, listening to music, playing games, or just sitting with a patient. We serve patients in facilities and in their own homes. We follow CDC guidelines and make sure our volunteers are aware of any positive COVID-19 cases.

We rely on our volunteers to help keep the Ronald McDonald House a clean, warm, and welcoming place for our families.

Volunteer duties include cleaning, laundry, errands, preparing guest rooms, sorting donations, driving the shuttle van to/from the hospital (optional), front desk support (additional training required), and special events. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Volunteers are asked to commit to one regular three-hour shift per week.

Shifts are available between 9 AM - 9 PM. Attendance reliability is required.

Our families look forward to a home cooked meal after a long day at the hospital.  We welcome individuals and groups who wish to prepare a dinner meal for our families at any of our three locations:  Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City; Family Room at St. Luke’s in Cedar Rapids; and Family Room at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital in Iowa City.

Groups are responsible for planning, providing the groceries, cooking/preparing, and cleaning up. Meals must be prepared onsite at the Ronald McDonald House or come from a commercial kitchen.

If you’re looking to get out on the farm and volunteer amongst the residents, this opportunity is for you! Routine chores are every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday starting at 10:00am and finishing up once chores are done--around 1pm. Volunteers for routine chores will need to attend an orientation and volunteer a minimum of once a month. Typical volunteer activities include:

NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) provides support, education, and advocacy for people living with mental illness and their families. We offer several support groups, educational classes, and presentations for anyone in the community.

The International Women's Club of Iowa City provides friendship, education, and support for women from many countries, including the USA.  One offering of the club is the teaching of English on Tuesday and Thursday mornings during a 10 week fall semester and a 10 week spring semester.  Classes are held in Iowa City in person.  The English Program Manager could use assistants to coordinate the English program as of this fall.   The coordination role you choose can be based on your talents and interests.  All of the following skills would be valued:  marketing of our club offerings, welcoming and orienting new teachers and students, planning and managing registration of students, management of our class scheduling and teacher resources,  answering inquiries about our programs, explaining the IWC offerings to sister agencies, preparing student forms and lists, and purchasing materials for the classrooms.  

The International Women's Club offers English classroom instruction to women from around the world both spring and fall semesters.   We need new female teachers for fall semester 2025 which begins in early September and ends in late November.  The classes are small (6-15 adult women) and many instructional resources are offered as well as support from experienced fellow teachers.  The hours are 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  We are looking for women who have training and experience in English and/or ELL teaching.  It is possible to be a teacher assistant before teaching independently.  It is also possible to lead conversation groups if our class hours do not work for you.  You are welcomed to join our club now so you can get acquainted with other teachers and students at our fun 'English in the Park' events this summer.  Please contact us soon if you have interest.

Our fleet of delivery vehicles ensures that wholesome food gets delivered to recipient organizations. We rely on volunteers to clean out the delivery vehicles after each route and prepare them for driving the next day.

Assist units in volunteer recruitment to reflect community demographics.

* Act as a resource for nursing and health in the region across all business lines, working collaboratively with Nursing Network leaders and others to achieve the Chief Nurse Initiatives.

Many families and individuals in our community struggle daily to secure enough food to eat. The Coralville Community Food Pantry (CCFP) works to address this issue by offering weekly food assistance to anyone in Coralville who needs it.

Volunteers are needed to help prepare the pantry for our open hours to the public.  CCFP is a client-choice based pantry, which means it operates much like your local grocery store. Duties may include: unloading food deliveries, stocking shelves, sweeping/cleaning, breaking down cardboard boxes, etc. Opportunities exist Tuesday through Saturday, with some flexibility in time of shift.
