Assist in the rehabilitative care of sick and/or injured raptors (eagles, hawks, owls, vultures, etc), including rescue, triage, flight conditioning, assisting with medical treatment, preparing food, cleaning, documentation, answering the phone, caring for our avian ambassadors, and more. Training and safety equipment will be provided. The volunteer schedule is made monthly.
- No prior experience necessary.
- Must be at least 18 years old. Minors must have a parent/guardian present at all times and may not have direct contact with animals.
- Must be comfortable working in direct contact with live birds of prey.
- Must be comfortable preparing thawed mice, rats, quail, etc.
- Must be aware that euthanasia is a component of wildlife rehabilitation in the USA and required by state and federal laws in certain circumstances. Unfortunately, "no-kill" wildlife rehabilitation does not exist - that applies to domestic animals only.
- Shifts vary between 1-4 hrs depending on shift location, number of birds at the facility, treatments required, weather, and number and experience of volunteers per shift.
- Must wear closed-toe shoes.
- We have 2 facilities: the one listed below in Iowa City (indoor) and Two Horse Farm - 2257 Sugar Bottom Rd. NE, Solon 52333 (outdoor)
